Set Up Server-Side GTM
Complete the Server-side Google Tag Manager setup first.
Configure Web Container
- Add Conversion Linker tag firing on “All Pages”
- Create Google Tag with:
- GA4 Measurement ID
- Configuration parameter:
server_container_url= Hardal sGTM URL - Configuration parameter:
first_party_collection= true
- Create GA4 Event tags for conversions (purchase, sign_up, etc.)
Configure Server Container
- Set up GA4 Client with:
- Default GA4 paths: Enabled
- Cookies and Client Identification: Server Managed
- Add Server Conversion Linker tag firing on “All Pages”
Create Google Ads Conversion Tags
For each conversion action:
- Go to “Tags” → “New”
- Select “Google Ads Conversion Tracking”
- Enter Conversion ID and Label from Google Ads
- Create trigger: Custom Event matching your GA4 event name
- Add condition: “Client Name equals GA4”
Set Up Enhanced Conversions
- Create User-Provided Data variable in web container
- Add
user_datafield to GA4 Configuration tag - Enable Enhanced Conversions in server-side Google Ads tags
- Map user data variables (email, phone, address)
