Overview

This guide will walk you through the process of connecting your Hardal analytics data to Looker Studio using a MySQL connection. This integration allows you to create custom dashboards and visualizations using your Hardal data.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • An active Hardal account with data collection configured

  • Access to Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio)

  • MySQL connection credentials from Hardal support

  • Appropriate access permissions in both platforms

The MySQL connection credentials are sensitive information. Store them securely and don’t share them publicly.

Requesting Connection Credentials

Contact Hardal Support

  1. Email Hardal support at support@usehardal.com

  2. Include the following information in your request:

    • Your Hardal Signal ID

    • The email address associated with your account

Receive Credentials

Hardal support will provide you with:

  • MySQL hostname

  • Port number

  • Database name

  • Username

  • Password

Setting Up the Connection

Access Looker Studio

  1. Go to Looker Studio

  2. Sign in with your Google account

  3. Click “Create” in the top-left corner

  4. Select “Data Source” from the dropdown menu

Configure MySQL Connection

  1. In the connector gallery, search for and select “MySQL”

  2. Enter the connection details provided by Hardal support:

    • Hostname

    • Port

    • Database name

    • Username

    • Password

  3. Click “AUTHENTICATE”

Verify Connection

  1. Once connected, you’ll see a list of available tables

  2. Verify that you can see your Hardal data tables

  3. Select the tables you want to use

  4. Click “Done”

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

If you cannot connect to the MySQL database:

  1. Verify Credentials:

    • Check for typos in hostname, username, and password

    • Ensure you’re using the latest credentials provided

  2. Network Issues:

    • Check if your network allows MySQL connections

    • Verify firewall settings

    • Contact your IT team if you’re behind a corporate firewall

  3. Permission Issues:

    • Confirm your IP address is whitelisted

    • Verify database access permissions
